UK is ahead of deficit target

[22 February 2012, CITY A.M.] On 22 February, Tim Wallace writing on CITY A.M. reported that the Government’s deficit reduction plan is well ahead of schedule, with an unexpectedly large surplus in January bringing down the year’s projected borrowing figures, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed yesterday. The surplus hit £7.75bn in the month, up from £5.20bn last January, and taking borrowing in the financial year so far to £93.5bn – down £15.7bn on the same period of last year.
